Ingredients
Ingredients scaled to 4 servings
- baguette, cut into ½-inch to ⅓-inch squares
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 garlic clove, grated with microplane
- chives, chopped
- parsley, chopped
- black pepper, to taste
Preparation
- Step 1Cut the baguette into 6-inch lengths, stand on edge and cut into thirds, then cut crosswise into ½-inch to ⅓-inch widths and finally into little squares.
- Step 2Melt the butter in a pan. Add the chopped chives and parsley.
- Step 3When the butter starts to melt, grate the garlic clove directly into the pan with a microplane so it dissolves into the butter.
- Step 4Add a little black pepper to the garlic butter. Gently pour the butter mixture around the croutons in the pan and turn them over a couple of times to coat.
- Step 5Pour the coated croutons and herbs onto a cookie sheet and spread into one even layer.
- Step 6Bake in a 350°F oven until golden and crisp.
Notes
- Great way to use up leftover or stale bread.
- Essential topping for Caesar salad.
